Bloggin over lunch.

One nice thing about working for myself is being able to blog during the day without feeling guilty about it. Ha, what a perk. In other news, I realized today that I never took any photos of my shingles when they were at their worst state. I kind of wish I had documented it. Oh well. As for my cold, it is almost completely gone now (I think). Unfortunately, S is still a bit sick though, but we THINK she's on the upswing too. My early prediction is that we'll both be in good shape for the weekend ... which, by the way, I am looking forward to more than anything. We don't have many plans yet, but the last few weekends at home just haven't felt like real weekends because of our various sicknesses. So, yeah, if we are both perfectly healthy by Friday, things should be pretty awesome.

Okay, back to work.

It's grillin' season.

There's something very satisfying about buying a new propane tank. It brings out the Hank Hill in me.

I am a survivor.

Still fighting this damn cold, but got a lot of cleaning done today, and at least being sick makes a good excuse for watching endless hours of Dr. Katz.

Impromptu splurge!

On a whim, just bought the compete series of Dr. Katz on DVD. 1-day shipping. Can Amazon possibly fulfill by tomorrow? We shall see!

UPDATE 3/25, 9:35am: Looks like it's coming on Saturday. Ah well, good enough.

Wine country

We tried a few wine tastings in Long Island last weekend - a first for me (despite my pipedream of opening a winery someday). I had no idea that this area of New York had so many vineyards. There must have been over a dozen different wineries on the way into Southold, all on the same road, and many of them right next to each other. For about $5 you could try 5 different wines -- small glasses, of course, but not a bad deal at all, considering that you feel pretty damn good by that fifth glass (Who says you really have to spit it out?) So now of course my mind is racing with ideas on how this same setup could become popular in this area. There are several vineyards and wineries in the Central Pa region, but I wouldn't say the popularity is quite RAGING. I do hope to check out some of these places this spring/summer, just to get a feel for them, and maybe even take a few tours to see what they're production looks like. Just curious, you know?

Fuzz.

Back from a short but really nice trip to Long Island, NY this weekend to celebrate my good friend's 30th birthday. Unfortunately, I had a bad cold the entire time, so I was blowing my nose and pocketing dirty tissues like some kind of diseased bum. Between the Great Shingles Debacle and this new cold (which is still a bit itchy, if you care to follow the progession), I am beginning to feel a bit ... subhuman. What exactly is going on here? What was life like before all this sickness? I feel like I am in another world ... and the cold meds don't help this either. I met some new people this weekend -- great, really nice people -- and I have no idea how I must have appeared or sounded to them, because I barely remember the conversations I had. It feels like I have been drugged. And work-wise, I am so insanely busy right now, I can barely concentrate on anything at all other than the thought that projects are piling up and there is no end in sight. BUT, anyway, I don't want to sound like a total Debbie Downer here. I'm confident I will pull through all this in another few days ... assuming I don't have cancer or something. And with that, good night.

Getting ready for bed.

The most wonderful time of the day!

My shingles went from crazy painful to crazy itchy. I can't decide which is worse.

The show Baggage on GSN is absolutely ridiculous.

Good night.

Fad of the week

I would like to buy some turntables and live out my dream of becoming a secretly amazing DJ.

Figuring out how to relieve stress

So, now that I have shingles and all, I think I really need to figure out what to do with my life, career-wise. I have this business that is relatively successful considering I am the only person running it. But the downside is: it's killing me ... mentally, and now possibly physically as well. In this business, I essentially get paid to write. But I don't want to write forever, and I never have. The master plan was to create several different businesses from the success of this one, and pass on the writing duties to other writers. Unfortunately, without a ton of capital to experiment with, taking this (or any) business to the next level is actually quite difficult. I have tons of relatively solid ideas for other businesses, but no time or money to make them a reality. This is incredibly frustrating. I often talk about wanting to start a vineyard and winery ... but obviously there are many problems with this, most notably the lack of land, money and knowledge about wine. I also have several ideas for philanthropic companies, but if I pursue those full-time, I would have no money to survive myself. So yeah, lots to think about here. I'll get back to you.
